Dr. James Andersen is a principal investigator at Accel Research Sites’ Lakeland location, specializing in family and addiction medicine. His experience in addiction studies includes opioid and cocaine use disorder, opioid-induced constipation, and smoking cessation. In addition, he is Suboxone-certified and has conducted trials evaluating buprenorphine and COVID-19 vaccines, including presenting at the FDA Sublocade Scientific Advisory Committee. Dr. Andersen honed his addiction medicine capabilities during nearly two decades as medical director of Polk County’s first Opioid Treatment Program. Additionally, he served as medical director for two facilities operated by Bridges of America. Dr. Andersen is a Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine and a diplomat with the American Board of Addiction Medicine. He is a former medical review officer, AAMRO, and diplomate, emeritus, of the American Board of Family Practice. He also formerly served for two, three-year terms as director of the Florida Academy of Family Physicians.
