Dr. Sheridan Walter is a medical doctor with expertise in the bioethics of addiction, neuroethics, and harm reduction. He holds a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Applied Ethics from Stellenbosch University, where his thesis—“A Framework for Compassionate Clinical Responses to Addiction”—explores ethical approaches to addiction treatment.
Sheridan has presented research at international conferences, including the Postgraduate Bioethics Conference in Edinburgh (2023) and the UKZN Postgraduate Philosophy Symposium (2024). His specialized training includes HIV prevention and stimulant use interventions with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), chemsex harm reduction with Mainline Harm Reduction School, and community assessments for harm reduction initiatives.
His work focuses on promoting culturally competent care for people who use drugs, including those engaged in chemsex and intravenous drug use.
